We fished on the MAD MARLIN with skipper Mauricio and his mate Memo. These are two experienced fishermen who go out of their way to make your trip enjoyable. Mauricio is willing to do the miles to take where the fish are. Memo has a keen eye and works the poles with excellent efficiency. We raised 9 fish to the bait on what was a tough day of fishing for most. The sailfish were bigger than places we have fished before and once hooked and the Captain lets you enjoy the battle. We came home with some great pictures from a successful day of fishing. We also caught the biggest Dorado I have ever seen which Johnathan filleted for us. There was no better meal that evening as we took it to a local restaurant which prepared it two different ways.

A note of thanks to the crew of Mad Marlin. I have been planning a trip to Costa Rica for some time and had high expectations for the trip. The experience aboard Mad Marlin was exceptional. "Memo" the mate was the finest mate I have fished with in my 53 years. His expertise was apparent from the start. The captain and he worked together flawlessly to help us score a boat load (literally) of Sails and Dorado in our six days of fishing. The crew defines the words friendly, professional and courteous. The boat is immaculate and well equipped. I brought much of my own gear as on many of my prior international charters, the charter has had less than adequate equipment. This was not necessary on Mad Marlin as they have a wide range of excellent light to heavy tackle. The only reason to bring your own rigs is to say you caught multiple Sails on your rod. I have been a serious offshore fisherman for most of my adult life and can say without reservation that this was the finest and most enjoyable fishing trip I have experienced. I only wish we had a bigger scale on the boat because the 7+ foot Dorado was likely near record size!
